Unnaipol Oruvan - Review
Language: Tamil
Movie: Unnaipol Oruvan
Director: Chakri Toleti
Producer: Kamal Hasan
Music: Sruthi Hassan
Cast: Kamal Hassan, Mohanlal, Lakshmi, Ganesh Venkatram, Anuja, Bhaskar
Released: September 18, 2009
Based on: Hindi movie A Wednesday
Rating: ****
Kamal Hasan has done a film without a character name in this movie. No heroine, no big fights, no songs, no romance. Only Kamal Hasan can give films like this!
You cannot question the performance of any artists. The screen play was amazing! Sruthi Hasan has done her job as the debutant! Her background music was excellent!
This movie is a must watch movie and no cannot miss it! Every scene was taken perfectly including the exceptionally done climax!
The movie starts Kamal Hasan buying vegetables! The only comedy scene was the Bhaskar's complaint on his wife in the police station. The movie gets speed when Kamal Hasan makes the first anonymous call to Mohanlal (Maraar). He talks about the bomb planted in Anna Salai Police Station.
Kamal asks for a negotiator--SPOC. Chief Secretary Laxmi is given power by CM, which she gives it to Mohanlal.
The key decision by Kamal and the crew was to retain the original voice of Mohanlan as his accent added great value to the movie. It was natural and Mohanlal lived as Police Commissioner.
Kamal Hassan reminds us to the Coimbatore bomb blast and Meenambakkam airport blast to give the film a local flavour. And to add his own secularist view point, one of the Muslim characters justifies his action and says it is all because of Modi and communal politics which led to the Best Bakery case.
Kamal wanted the terrorists to be freed otherwise he says that the bombs planted will go off. The argument between Mohanlal and Laxmi were fantastic! They were crisp and clear! The dialogue writter Era Murugan should be given a round of applause.
Maraar and his crack team of officers, led by a daring brooding cop Arif Khan (Ganesh Venkatram), gets ready to hand over the terrorists to the anonymous caller at an airfield.
Kamal calls Mohanlal and also informs Press reporter Anuja. The order in which Anuja says about who she is--a women, Indian, and a reporter, deserves applause.
Kamal's emotional outburst at the end, is heart rending and perhaps one of the finest piece of acting seen in Tamil cinema. The scene where he wipes his tears through the tip of the gun was an amazing piece! Which can also be understood as he is clearing his anger through pistol (action and not peace)! Kamal and Mohanlal coming together is worth your ticket money.
Kamal has given two messages in this film:
1. Jnabagha maradhi is a desiya vyadhi (Forgetting past is the national disease)
2. Theeviravadhatthai thadukka theeviravadhatthal mattume mudiyum (Terrorism can be tackled only through terrorism) and no peace talks can help!
He clarified that the second point is misunderstood as he never said terrorism needs to be tackled by terrorism. In an interview to TV channel, he said, only talks can help.
Kudos to Kamal and the entire crew for a wonderful movie! Though it is a remake of hindi movie "A Wednesday", it was wonderfully picturized and filmed!
Solla Solla Inikkum - Review
Language: Tamil
Movie: Solla Solla Inikkum
Director: Murali Abbas
Production: M Cinema
Music: Bharadwaj
Photography: Gopinath
Cast: Navdeep, Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidhyarthi, Vijayakumar, Abninay, Suja, Sura Allambra, Madhumitha, Charlie
Released: September 18, 2009
Rating: *
The director tried a romantic movie and one should say that he was successful to some extent. This is not the first romantic movie and a multi love story is always there in many numbers.
Ashish Vidhyarthi, Charlie have been wasted in this movie. They could have been used better. There is nothing that Ashish Vidhyarthi could do as a sub-inspector. His role was very minimal and except the dialoge "Youth" he couldn't do much.
Navdeep, the hero of the story, has done well. He plays the character Sathya, who falls in love with three girls and they did not love in him turn. They reject him. The director has conveyed that the love need not stop with one person and it can actually change as the time goes. He has also conveyed the message of continuing the life even after love failures.
Navdeep's friend Abhinay loves the girl that Navdeep loves. Knowing that Abhinay has proposed and they both are loving, he helps their love. Livingston, the father of Madhumitha, done his role well.
Abhinay, playing the character Guru, takes Madhumitha for a tour without the knowledge of her father. She falls pray for his tactics! Guru rejects the calls and stops visiting Madhumitha.
Madhumitha tries for sucide but gets saved. Satya promises her that he will have Guru marry her.
Prakash Raj plays a different role where he helps whoever comes and garlands him. Abhinay seeks his help and Navdeep ignores him and abducts Abhinay to get him married to Madhumitha.
After the fight, Prakash Raj's gundas takes Navdeep & his friends into their custody. Vidhyarti tries to save Navdeep through police action, but Navdeep denies his help and says he likes Prakash Raj because of his helping tendency.
Navdeep garlands Prakash Raj and ask him to do help only for good things. Navdeep, whose love broke with Mallika becuase of the chaos created by Madhumitha, finally joins.
Vijaykumar, Livingston, Madhumitha, Navdeep's friends have done well. None of the songs stayed in the mind. The music was not that great and a puts a question as to whether Bharathwaj really scored music for this film.

Rajni to head Fans Club!
Superstar has decided to head his fans club. There were rumours that Satyanarayana, the current head was fired. Later, Satyanarayana mentioned that it was due to family and other personal pressure that has come in his way. He said, he has to attend 20 highly important meetings every day and that is a pressure job!
He further said that his boss Rajnikanth has advised him a break and he has accepted his advice. Based on his advice, he has taken a break and during that time, the BOSS himself will handle the fan club.
Other sources say that his over committment during the Kuselan movie, which failed in the box office is also one of the reasons. The logistics worked out by Satyanarayana with the fan club was not up to the mark which lead the fan club members to join other actor-turned-politicians groups. In addition to these, there were complaints against him by the fan club members during the meeting with the BOSS, superstar.

Rajnikanth Voted as Best, but behind Vijay!
It was really surprising to note that superstar of Tamil cinema has been voted behind Vijay to capture the 4th spot. Last year, in the same poll, he topped the list with Vijayakanth taking the 2nd place.
The poll was conducted by Loyola College students and Late Chief Minister Shri M.G. Ramachandran topped the list followed by Chevaliar Sivajiganeshan. Third was Vijay with 16.4% vote followed by superstar Rajnikanth with 16.2% vote.
Maybe, his recent back stepping on Water issue and then the flop of Kuselan would have pulled him down. But, everyone knows including Vijay that he cannot be matched with Rajnikanth, the superstar. He is nowhere close to him and can never be compared. Though it has happened, it is unfortunate!
Fifth place went to Vijayakanth with little over 10% votes.
As far as female artists are concerned, Saroja Devi came first followed by AIADMK Supremo Puratchi Thalaivi Doctor J Jayalalitha and then KR Vijaya and others.
The recent chicks Trisha, Nayanthara, Shriya Charan, are even Jyothika, Simaran or Kushboo were way below compared to Saroja Devi, Jayalalitha and KR Vijaya. The new artists have a long way to go and at the moment, it is nowhere possible that they would achieve this!
Congratulations to Vijay, but be careful that it is not going to be too long before our man takes over you! All the best!
